Writer's Block: Best. Concert. Ever.

What's the best concert you've ever been to?

Lollapalooza 1994
the info from Wikipedia

Main Stage: The Smashing Pumpkins, Beastie Boys, George Clinton & the P-Funk All Stars, The Breeders, A Tribe Called Quest, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, L7, Boredoms (first half of tour), Green Day (second half)

Side Stage: The Flaming Lips, The Verve, The Boo Radleys, The Frogs (first six dates only), Guided by Voices, Lambchop, Girls Against Boys, Rollerskate Skinny, Palace Songs, Stereolab, Fu-Schnickens, The Pharcyde, Shudder to Think, Luscious Jackson, God Lives Underwater, King Kong, Charlie Hunter Trio, Shonen Knife, Blast Off Country Style, Souls of Mischief, Cypress Hill, The Black Crowes

Several of the artists, including Green Day and Cypress Hill, skipped at least one Lollapalooza tour date in order to appear at Woodstock '94 instead. (Green Day held the opening slot for the show in Atlanta, flying to New York immediately afterwards.) Nirvana was scheduled to headline but officially pulled out on April 7, 1994, amid strong rumors that the band was on the verge of breaking up. Kurt Cobain was found dead in Seattle the following day.

The info from Jymi Cliche.
I ended up getting to go to Lollapalooza in 1994. I wish i had been the 3 previous years as well, but 94 was still pretty sick. At the time i was only like 115 pounds and i spent the ENTIRE DAY crowd surfing from show to show, stage to stage. I was even thrown onstage with the Breeders and the Flaming Lips. The Breeders were on the main stage and i was thrown back in the crowd immediately, but i was able to dance on stage with the Flaming Lips for a minute before i got thrown back.

The show i saw was in Rhode Island and i went with these guys Matt and Steve i knew from Reading. Steve drove and he had speakers to a megaphone attached to the top of the car. While stuck in 3 hours of traffic on the way into the base that the concert was at, we blasted the Beastie Boys on the megaphone for all the other cars to hear. We were in such bad bumper to bumper traffic on the highway, that at one point we all took turns getting out of the car on Steve's skateboard to skate between the cars on the highway.

The Beastie Boys put on the best show of the day. But everyone was great pretty much, except the Smashing Pumpkins who really aren't great live. I've seen them twice. Green Day was not at the RI show and i don't think Cypress Hill were either cuz i think i'd have remembered them.

Anyway, that was my best concert. I was in the air the whole day and only got down to meet up with Steve and Matt and some other Reading people we met up with.

It was a very fun day.

Other NOTEABLE concerts i have seen...

Ani Difranco- all 6 times and as of next week it will be 7. Did i tell you my sister Lisa got me a ticket to see Ani with her for Christmas? I'm psyched. My last ani show was with Lisa but it's been like 7 years since then i think. Or 8... i think the last time i saw Ani was in 2000.
Anyway, she is always great. Always puts on a damn good show.

Don White- a Boston area folk singer i saw in a church.... to be honest, that one may have actually been the best show. It was an emotional roller coaster and a great show. He plays mostly only in Massachusetts and Michigan, but if you ever happen to get a chance to see him... its so worth it

Pink Floyd- well duh. It was Pink Floyd... At Foxborough Stadium however it was The Division Bell Tour which Floyd fans know was after Roger Waters left the band, and since The Wall was the album that first got me into Pink Floyd, it was slightly disappointing to not have Roger Waters there... but it was still great. They did an insane laser show at the concert too which was neat, especially when it started to drizzle outside cuz it made the lasers look cool.

Melissa Ferrick- both times i saw her, she kicked as. I saw her in 2000 for free at the Pride Parade and took some decent pictures of her (and of Joan Jett who was also there). The second time, i paid to see her at the Somerville Theatre, and i plan to see her again if i can.

Ok, then how about an appropriate "WOOOOOOO!" after "32 Flavors" or "Little Plastic Castles" just for me? hehehehe

I'm doing all right, dealing with job finding and interviews which is never as exciting as you'd hope. I've missed you during your Gizmo cord-chewing silence!

We're working on it. You know our old drummer moved out there to go to Berklee and plays in some crappy metal band now but he's been asking us if we want to come out and play. So it depends on if they can lend us gear (since we can;t afford to bring all of ours) and if we can work the timing and stuff out. But we're trying! We'll keep you posted :)
