Glaucester Teen Pregnancy

http://www.boston.com/news/nation/articles/2008/06/22/mayor_no_support_for_claims_of_pregnancy_pact/

Did anyone else hear about this? kind of crazy shit. This is a highly Catholic fishing town in Massachusetts. It is a beautiful town. i have considered moving there, in fact.

17 (mainly sophmore) girls made a pact to get pregnant together. There may have been more to make the pact, but 17 of them are pregnant.

It makes me wonder, cuz i remember when i was their age or actually, when i was more like 13, i wanted to be a teen parent. it was something i figured would happen anyway. luckily for me it didnt, as i can't have kids anyway. i have no cervix. but yeah, with all the weird shit going on in the Catholic church these days it really makes me wonder.

ps
fun fact: in Massachusetts, we prounounce Glaucester as "Glaw-ster" or "Glaw-stah" similarly to our mid-Massachustts city Worcester "Woo-Stah/ Woo-ster". I mostly only don't pronounce my R's when i'm drunk, and i no longer drink, although my Boston accent is thicker than it was for years growing up in Reading when i tried to get rid of it.

My boyfriend has a friend who's now 24, she had a child when she was 16... I can't stand her, alot of it is because she had a child at 16 and payed NO consequence for it.

She has a great job, but her own parents do most of the parenting and she goes out every weekend at night like any other person at 24....

It furstrates me, it's such a tender topic for me; I hate it when people say about her 'oh look being a teen parent can be a positive thing' and I feel like saying she's only really being a part time parent regardless.

That said. If I could have the child i was going to have at 19... well 20 by the time it would'vebeen born. I totally would have. Maybe it's possible?

two of my mother's best friends in high school got pregnant when they were 16. i dont reall see one of them very much anymore, but i grew up with both their families. they both had kids around my age, as well as the older ones. one of the women, i still see. she ended up having 5 kids all together. she was a wonderful mom. she had to grow up early. it is possible. i think though, that when a 16 year old WANTS to get pregnant, that is a problem. It's an immature decision. Many girls just want to be moms cuz they hate their own moms (or think they do). A 16 year old can be capable of raising good kids, but it's really hard. i think that when they ask their mom's for help raising their own kids, however, it is a good thing, not a weakness. cuz it may be unfair to the parents, but it is a lot of pressure for a 16 year old to handle on their own. Admitting they need help is a sign of strength. The girl you speak of is lucky to have parents who helped her out, rather than had she been kicked out and forced to do it alone. And her kids are lucky too, cuz most teen parents are not ready to be parents and they end up hooked on drugs from the stress and then are unable to parent at all

Yeah I agree totally.

She was with the dad for the next 5-6 years until they broke up, then she moved back home... it's really beyond 'helping out' it seems like her parents raise the kid.

I guess there's a huge difference in maturity from 16 >>> 20 >>> 24 really anyway.
