War in Boston

this sucks.

(these 20 murders in 2008 so far do not count "alleged" murders, in which case this list would be way longer)

32 people died in Chicago just LAST WEEKEND. Shit was crazy, even for here. That's gonna spike the annual tally up considerably. It's incredible sad and frustrating...

Correction: 32 people were shot last weekend (all separate incidents) and 6 of them died. As of today, the tally is up to 40 shot and 12 dead (there was another shooting in the middle of the week). But yeah...10 in one week is horrible. 32 in one weekend is sickening.

i've looked and couldn't find anything like what you've got, but i know the homicide is increasing in the area where i live...

yeah, i'm not surprised the homicide rate is rising there. it is in a lot of cities. it sucks

i live in a neighbourhood where there is gunfire every week in my streets right outside where i live...lots of speeding cars, and a few crashes...
east oakland lives up to its reputation...

wow. do you get paranoid a lot?
i was accidentally in that part of boston a few days ago. i was just driving around boston and happened to end up in dorchester/roxbury/roslindale/jp/hyde park... only hood i didn't end up in was mattapan (aka "murda-pan") i have no idea how i ended up in these places. i was just driving...it seemed odd, kinda freaky. and we went through the bricks in every part too... but i really wasn't scared, and that freaked me out a little too.
i got pulled over later that day closer to where i live for going 5-10 mies over the speed limit. it freaked me out. and yesterday there were helicopters and sirens for hours. i was freaking out when i first saw the helicopters, cuz they were right over my building and i first saw them when i reached the spot i was puled over at. i thought someone was setting me up and i got really scared, but there was an amber alert for a kidnapping in the area... crazy shit tell ya
have you alway lived in the hood?

no, i don't get paranoid...i'm slightly amused by the "gangsta rap" and the mentality of the 'hoods that hang out in front of my place...i bought some pot off one of them some time back, and i give a nod "hello" or say "hi" and wave...
i have lived in a small but growing and somewhat safe suburban city pretty much all of my life so when i moved here last year june, it was quite a shock to my system and it did take some getting used to...
but i can easily adapt and even when my car got broken into twice in less then 3 days - eh...it's where i live and i can't change that unless i hit the lottery and we move from here...
this neighbour is diverse w/asians, very few whites, blacks and lots of mexicans...i'm a mexican that doesn't speak all that much spanish and i live w/a man that hates this place...
interesting dynamic, huh?

Re: neighbourhoods
a lot of that gangsta rap mentality i pretty dumb, and yet some of it is smart. unfortunately, the dumb shit that is said is so enforced in pop culture and teaching all the wrong shit. but there is some really good rap too. but i definitely think a lot of what they are trying to teach is whack and keeping people right where they are, rather than helping to further them.
its crazy around here too with rappers. i think we have a decent balance of some really great and deep stuff out here. the boston scene is not big in the media right now cuz its not about selling products and women and whatever, its actually quite good, and its gonna catch on soon, but unfortunately a lot will sell out then.

anyway, good luck with the lottery. (:
